::Its nothing. Better to start hiking from ticuanteppe directly. Take the route toward montibelli, that is very nice with a lot of birds (we even saw a snake sneaking into a hole breaks the road. The 5 us$ (locals) to 10$ (non residents) they ask for hiking on the private terrain is a rip off and we rejected it after ample consideration. Collateral information (their museum is nothing more then a 20 inch board with some butterflies; lack of verbal and nonverbal information on what they have; etc) was sufficient to decide on it. Gave them 5 minutes to proof otherwise, without effect. We drove back (indeed don't do it without 4 x4) and took three opportunity to pause, wall and admire the public available nature. Beautiful in rain season. But don't go into montibelli. Save your money for a nice lunch in ticuanteppe afterwards. PS, if you don't have a 4 x4, let yourself be dropped off by a mototaxi ( 3 Wheelers) in front of montibelli and walk back to ticuanteppe. About 3 to 4 km and always finer to walk back.

::Stayed at Montibelli from 10-12 June and had one of the best times ever. Since it is the rainy season I was the only guest and I was treated like a king. The preserve offers comfortable cabins, no a/c, no wifi, here you are really away from everything. The price includes 3 meals a day and the food was fantastic. My main goal was birding and I was treated to a variety of birds, all of the permanent residents since the migrants have flown north already. My guide Juan Rodriguez has an amazing knowledge and went out of his way to take me on different trails to see and photograph birds. The manager Ileana was an excellent host. I highly recommend the place but don't expect luxury, this is nature and the road to get there is pretty rough but once you get there you don't need to go anywhere.

::Montibelli is an okay place for a hike in the tropical forest. Unfortunately the place is run down quite a lot, and it looks like not many tourists show up. You need probably a 4x4 to reach the place on a pretty bad road. We did a short hike to the "Mirador", according to them it will take 20-30 minutes, with our 3 year old son it took us maximum 10 minutes. As we came back to the lodge, nobody was around so we wanted to go back. As we left the parking, a woman started waving and wanted us to pay 5 US$ each as entrance fee, which is a lot in our opinion for such a place.
