::I've been coming to La Esquina Del Lago since I was 8 with my parents. I caught my first Tarpon when I was ten. This is my favorite place to fish in the World.

::One of my favorite places to go in the World. I was there in October and January in the last year for my fifth and 6th time. From the fishing to the cayman tours. Champa and the guides make sure the guests get everything they need. I can’t wait to get down there again. There’s no better bang for your buck for a completely different experience then anything I’ve ever done.

::We stayed for 2 nights over Christmas. Philippe, the owner, is a great communicator, replying to all messages promptly and its generally very helpful, friendly and welcoming. You go to the hotel in a little boat - less than 5 minutes but you feel nicely "away from it all" at the lodge. The lodge has a lovely, relaxed, family feel to the place - staff are friendly and helpful. Loved the 2 dogs! We borrowed the kayak and explored the river a little. The rooms are quite basic: no hot water, A/C or wifi but comfy and characterful with fly screens and lots of windows, plus the setting out on the water is lovely. We enjoyed some tasty meals here - the breakfasts were particularly good. Thanks for a great stay Philippe and family.

::A great place at the mouth of the Río San Juan, just across the river from San Carlos. Run by an expatriate Frenchman, the place has a character all its own. Built on pilings the lodge sits right on the water. Do not expect fancy amenities here, no hot water and no air conditioning, I did not miss either. With a French owner/manager you would expect the food to be great. I know, overworking a stereotype here, but it is true, the food is great. The primary reason for our trip was not fishing, rather sightseeing and birding. The area is spectacular for that. You can spot a few dozen species, or more, from the lodge. Take a trip up the Rio Frio and see much more, maybe a few howler monkeys as well. Note there are large iguanas in the trees around the lodge. With several nice pangas available we spent several days on the river, traveling as far as El Castillo. We did fish a little, hooking and fighting a good sized tarpon for a while. Landing two beautiful snook that made very good eating.
