::Our stay at Casa de Gio was wonderful. Getting there was easy from the ferry that drops off just a few blocks away. As we got close, some friendly locals pointed us to the entrance. We were able to check in to our room even though we were several hours early. We had reserved a private room. It had a full sized bed, nightstand with lamp, storage space for luggage and clothing, a full-length mirror, a fan, and ample extra space. Our room also included a private bathroom which was welcome. The water was lukewarm but refreshing after a long day in the heat. Outside our room was a small table and hammock chair for lounging. The room did get a little hot but wasn't too bad with the lights off and the fan going. The common area had plenty of chairs, tables, and hammocks for you to lounge around and hang out with other guests. The hostel is spacious with three separate areas where you can hang out in. The open-air space also stayed much cooler than the room so it was a good place to hang out. We enjoyed breakfast at the hostel which was a steal at $4 which included eggs, bread, fresh fruit, freshly squeezed juice, and coffee. We felt completely safe as the front door was locked at night and someone was always at the front desk. Beyond the space what made this a memorable stay was the hospitality. Maria was there to greet us and she and her family made us feel at home right away (and it's literally their home!) She gave us great suggestions on what to do around the island, set us up with a trusted company to rent a quad bike for the day, and answered all the questions we had about Ometepe and Nicaragua. When we checked out, her father even drove us down to the ferry as a courtesy! Just the nicest, warmest people and will definitely stay here again if I find myself back in Ometepe. Do yourself a favor and book yourself a stay. Now!

::Best budget hotel I have stayed in for a long time! The staff are a lovely local family that treat you with so much respect and are so helpful. The rooms are modern and clean and stay cool at night. Fresh towels and sheets whenever you need them. There is a small gym setup out in the garden that you can use which was nice. You can hire motorbikes (scooters) from them with no hassles at all unlike some of the horror stories from other operators in town. The kitchen is wonderful. You can cook anything with all the pots and pans and oven etc but best of all there is cooking oil, salt, pepper and basic cooking stuff to make it all so much better. I booked 2 nights and ended up staying a week. For exploring the island it is best to stay in this part of town and use scooters to do day trips around the island. So stay here! You will not regret it
