  Very calm location. Would be nice if the house we stayed in wasa little better maintained. It was sufficient, but there was so much more potential. Electricity in the main house was a bit spotty. Reach room had at least one light bulb, but the main area had several light sockets with burned out or missing bulbs. Made for a dark environment at night.

  This was one of our favourite places on our trip through Central America so far!! We stayed at the Rancho Esperanza for two weeks as volunteers & loved this little hidden paradise. Jiquilillo is a small fishers town with a beautiful beach and beautiful sunsets where you can watch the fishing boats in the bay. We took surf classes, learned how to make tortillas and went on a bioluminescence tour in the estuary close by. The food at the Rancho is amazing, too! Thank you Imara, Ana, Francisco and Ryan for making us feel so welcomed, we would love to come back! :-)

  Amazing! Incredible, bohemian, beach front oasis. If you're looking for off the beaten path surfing, kayaking, nature and community, this is the spot.

  Really enjoyed this place. Good food, decent prices, interesting village and area. Waves are not as consistent and powerful as further south. From what I gathered you need a combination of offshore winds (which occur only in the morning) and a medium to high tide (and a minimum of swell!) for the breaks to work, but the advantage is that you'll have tons of room to yourself. Nate was a very good host and the place is very well maintained. They rent boards. Ah and yes, avoid Semana Santa, it gets crazy here for about 9 days.

  It was okay. There is no kitchen for guest use. They have a menu but food is overpriced for the area. Everything has a hidden fee. If you want the quiet dorm it is an extra $3. (The regular dorm is above the main area so if you are an early riser you can feel quite limited.) If you want drinking water that is an extra $1.25. Coffee in the morning $1. They have free boogie boards, which are super fun. The guy running the place and the staff are friendly enough and the area around is beautiful. Lots of hammocks and sandy beaches. Their beach is nicer than the other hostel in the area. And they have a fully stocked library there! They offer services such as Spanish lessons, yoga, and surf lessons.
