  I know it’s stated when you book, that there is no AC, but when the windows have no mosquito net, the room gets insanely hot and you cannot cool it down only with a fan, so we slept horribly. The pool was nice and cool however not very clean.

  The reviews we read of this place painted a different picture than we expected so Im here to tell our experience. First, for all the nights we were here there was a loud thumping bass that could be heard in the rooms from 9pm to 2am everyday, so be prepared for that. We did not sleep well here. Second, the rooms do have a weird funky smell as other reviewers commented on. Third, staff will cut your A/C off whenever they feel like it but they wont tell you that before you buy the room (or else no one would agree to it). Fourth, they may (and did for us) refuse to serve you breakfast if a large group shows up 5 mins before you want to eat, so you cannot rely on them to provide breakfast for you. When inquiring about this, the main host lady was a bit rude to us, but she was at other times nice to us. I would recommend staying outside of moyogalpa.

  Beautiful place to stay! Originally planned to stay a night but extended another two night stay. The pool was a blessing on a hot day. Very courteous staff, breakfast options were excellent. Coming back again! (2 full sized beds in AC room with bathroom on second floor that stepped out to a little sitting area facing Concepcion volcano)

  Reasonable rooms for the price. Quite simple but with good breakfast. However, we found the service quite scammy . The 5 person rooms do have an airco, however it is deactivated and in comparison to the 3 person rooms, one need to pay additionally for it, although it was advertised to have one included. At first they said it would cost 10$ to use it during our total stay. However, after the first night we paid for it, they switched it off again and claimed that it would be 10$ per night instead. We would never have paid this at all if they told us this on forehand. Especially not since this is totally not in line with the other prices. Secondly the excursions one could book via the Hostal are more expensive than the same tours when booked by local scooter rental services like dinartes. Especially when being with a larger group, do not book excursions via the Hostal as they won't give group discounts were others do. Lastly, just a small warn. We wanted to rent scooters but the company the Hostal is pushing to rent them only had a few reviews and all by local people. It could be the case that the advertised rental company is quite new, but we didn't trust it enough and went for a rental that had way more (and more honest) reviews on Google.

  I'm surprised by the amount of good reviews of this place, so it's possible that my bad experience was just bad luck! The location is mostly good because of its closeness to the port, but besides that there really isn't anything else that it's attractive about it. Upon arrival they told us that they had somehow double booked our room for our second night. Then, while trying to check us in the wifi dropped so they couldn't do that either and asked us to wait. The room was decent, clean enough. But the water pressure was so weak we could barely take a shower. They offer breakfast and rooms with AC but these are additional costs.
