Guardabarranco Cafe in Leon is not far from everything - market, churches, town square and many of the hotels. I was somewhat confused that the front door was locked but a small sign asking to enter via the next door (which was the tattoo place) made sense. The cafe doesn’t have A/C but the ceiling fans were able to provide respite from the intense humidity and heat. The menu had a variety of foods both local and from abroad. I chose a bowl of papas campesinos and a copa de sangria. As I sat at the table on the high stool looking out to the street, I could hear and see the ‘hustle and bustle of Nicaragua’s famous town of Leon. Similar to so many others in Central America, there is always something happening. My order arrived and it was just what I needed. Chilled and icy sangria and salty papas. The staff were lovely and despite not being able to speak English, we both made an effort to be understood. As a side note, the cakes in the display fridge at the entrance were enticing. @intrepidtravel #intrepidtravel #bestofcentralamerica #guardabarrancocafe #thewanderingreviewer #cafesofleon #leoncafes

We tried lunch and dessert here, and it was okay but not amazing. The Nutella crepe is better than the peanut butter. The BBQ sandwich, turkey and ham sandwich, and fries was also just okay. The Oreo milkshake was the best thing we ordered. The cakes have a good base, but there’s too much frosting and it tastes almost exactly like Cool Whip. If you get a cake go for the tiramisu or tres leche.

Nice patio, good coffee, I just think the music was a bit too loud for me.

Definitely one of the best affogato I had so far, coffee has a great taste and is not too sour. The cake tres leches was OK.
